Where to Buy Area Rugs Online in Canada: 5 Best Stores (2026)

Shopping for a rug online should be the easy part — you get more choice, better prices, and no driving around the city. But knowing where to buy area rugs online in Canada is half the battle, because selection, shipping times, and return policies vary a lot from store to store. This guide breaks down the five best places to shop, what each one does well, and who should buy from where.

We've focused on retailers that actually ship within Canada (so you're not stuck with long waits or surprise customs fees), carry a real range of sizes and styles, and make returns painless. Here's where to start.

What to look for in an online rug store in Canada

Before the list, a quick checklist. A good online rug store in Canada should tick most of these boxes:

• Ships from within Canada — avoids long delivery windows and unexpected duties at the border.
• Clear sizing with feet and cm — so an 8x10 (244 x 305 cm) is easy to picture in your room.
• Easy returns — a rug is hard to judge on a screen, so a fair return window matters.
• Washable options — machine-washable rugs are the biggest upgrade in the category, especially with pets or kids.
• Honest pricing in CAD — no USD conversion surprises at checkout.

With that in mind, here are the best stores to buy rugs online in Canada right now.

1. rugsco.ca — Best for washable & affordable area rugs

If your priority is washable rugs at a fair price, rugsco.ca is the best place to buy rugs online in Canada. It's a Canadian rug specialist with stock that ships from within Canada, so delivery is quick and there are no border surprises. The range leans into exactly what most homes need — soft shag rugs, boho and neutral styles, and a deep selection of machine-washable rugs — all priced to undercut the big-box and premium brands.

The washable focus is the real standout: you lift the rug, put it in the machine, and lay it back down fresh — no professional cleaning, no spot-clean-only compromises. Sizes are listed clearly in both feet and cm, and you'll find everything from a 5x7 up to a 9x12. It's also carried on Amazon.ca if you prefer to check out there. Shipping and returns are both free across Canada, so there's no risk in trying a rug at home and sending it back if it isn't right. Simply put, it makes it easy to buy rugs online in Canada without overpaying — and whether you call it a rug or want to buy carpet online in Canada, the same affordable, washable range applies. 2. Wayfair.ca — Best for the largest selection

Wayfair.ca carries one of the biggest rug catalogues in Canada, spanning nearly every size, style, and price point. If you want endless options to scroll through, it's hard to beat. The trade-off is that it's a marketplace with many third-party sellers, so quality and shipping times can vary from listing to listing, and returns on large rugs aren't always free. Read the individual seller reviews before you commit.

3. Amazon.ca — Best for fast delivery

For speed, Amazon.ca is tough to beat — with Prime, many rugs arrive in a day or two. Selection is broad and prices are competitive, and returns are generally straightforward. As with any marketplace, quality depends on the specific seller and product, so lean on the review count and photos. (Worth noting: several specialist brands, rugsco.ca included, also sell here.)

4. Ruggable — Best known for washable rugs

Ruggable popularised the two-piece washable rug and ships to Canada. The system works well and the designs are strong, but it sits at the premium end of the market — you'll usually pay noticeably more than a comparable washable rug from a Canadian specialist. A great option if budget isn't the priority; if it is, compare prices closely before buying.

5. IKEA Canada — Best for budget basics

IKEA is the go-to for low-cost, simple rugs, especially flatweaves and small accent pieces. Prices are very low and availability is reliable. The catch is that the range of larger statement rugs and washable options is limited, and the best stock is often in-store rather than shipped. Good for a quick, cheap fix; less so for a standout piece.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the cheapest place to buy rugs online in Canada?

For simple, small rugs, IKEA Canada is usually the lowest upfront cost. But for the best value on full-size area rugs — especially washable ones — a Canadian specialist like rugsco.ca typically wins, since you get a larger, better-made rug for a similar or lower price than premium brands charge.

Are washable rugs worth it?

For most households, yes. A machine-washable rug lets you clean spills, pet messes, and everyday dust without professional cleaning — you just put it through the wash and lay it back down. They're the single most practical upgrade in the category, which is why specialist stores now carry such a wide range.

How long does rug shipping take in Canada?

It depends on where the rug ships from. Stores with stock inside Canada usually deliver within a few business days, while items shipped from the US can take one to two weeks and may add duties. Buying from a store that ships domestically is the easiest way to avoid delays.

Can you return a rug bought online in Canada?

Most reputable online rug stores accept returns, but the terms vary — some cover return shipping, others don't, and large rugs can be costly to send back. Always check the return window and who pays for shipping before you order, especially on bigger sizes.
